Blog #4: Beauty Pageants

Beauty Pageants

I would like to propose that girls under the age of 18 should not be permitted to participate in any type of beauty pageant. I believe the rules involving pageants and it's participants should be more constricted because pageants encourage girls to compare themselves to impossible standards and in turn, cause eating disorders, body dissatisfaction and depression. My primary audience would start with Florida's House of Representatives (specifically Rep. Matt Caldwell, as he would be the one needing persuading to represent the Bill to the House), and from there (if it is passed) it would be represented by the State Senator to Congress. If it passes there, it would go to the President to make it officially a Law.

In theory, the process seems simple, however in practice it can take months upon months of discussing the Bill, arguing about it, revising it, sending it to Congress, sending it back to the House after a revision to be re-voted on, etc etc. It is incredibly long and tedious. And not to mention the effort into convincing a Representative to sponsor it in the first place. Some problems that the proposal may get could involve Representatives who are against the Bill passing, the Beauty Pageant Industry getting involved, or Congressmen/women being against the Bill passing. There are thousands of possibilities that could prevent it from passing all the way to where the President would have to make it into an official Law. As for costs, it would really depend on how much opposition there is.

Blog #3: Quaintrelle

Creating a Website

A quaintrelle is described as "a woman who emphasizes a life of passion expressed through personal style, leisurely pastimes, charm and cultivation of life's pleasures" and as a company we seek to empower women by providing the "personal style". As seen by its name, Quaintrelle's main goal is to influence women to express themselves and their own personal charm by giving them the tools they need to feel beautiful. The site includes not only reasonably priced jewelry but also offers tips on fashion, tricks to saving money, instructions for skin care and makeup help. The intended audience is women with ages ranging from 15 to 80+.

Quaintrelle does not associate with any political party, nor does it endorse any political party, therefore it does not sell, buy or show any political merchandise or offer an opinion of any candidate. Though women are our main target, Quaintrelle does not discriminate against gender, race, age or sexual orientation and will never refuse to provide information or services to a person because of such.

If a customer finds that a piece of information posted on the site is inaccurate, he or she is welcome to point this out and the administrators of the site will fix it as soon as possible. Also if within 60 days the product bought by the customer unravels, breaks, comes undone, snaps, shatters or receives any other kind of damage, they are urged to notify the company and send the product back where Quaintrelle will fix or replace it for free. After the 60 days, there will be a fee. Said fee will be governed by the original price of the product, complexity of the piece and the extent of the damage.
Quaintrelle is an online store as well as a compilation of different resources regarding health, fashion, style and finances. Its products are handmade and stored in their main office based out of Fort Myers Florida, before being shipped to wherever the order came from. The site can be viewed on any device granted it has reliable access to the internet.
Customers of Quaintrelle include middle to upper-class citizens of the United States and parts of Europe.

The main impression the makers of Quaintrelle wish to provide through the website is feminine class and taste, which means no overbearing or loud background images. Instead, each link will be tastefully created in order to look nice and be effective. The entire purpose of the website is to appeal to all types of women from all different types of backgrounds. We plan to do this by including jewelry and tips for the sweet girl who likes petite items, natural makeup and soft colors, all the way to the rebel girl who likes skulls, black makeup, and dark colors.  This means including specific titles to the different "genres" of style that any given person could like. Organization is key and the entire website will keep a general theme for each page per subject. The tabs will be placed in the middle of the upper heading after the company title. Throughout the site, images will only be used if completely necessary to prove a point or as an example. All information used will be properly cited and all credit will be given where it is due.

Blog #2: Neonatal Nurse

Neonatal Nurse.

In order to become a Neonatal Nurse, the individual in question will first need his or her 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN). After going through that process, the individual must become certified in Neonatal Resuscitation and/or Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing, and in addition to that, he or she may also be required to fulfill a certain amount of years gaining experience while working in a hospital setting. There are three main Levels of Neonatal Nursing;
Level 1 works with completely healthy babies and newborns.
Level 2 works with premature or sick newborns.
Level 3 works with the most at-risk newborns and specializes in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). Level 4 Neonatal Nurses have the most extensive and important responsibilities because they are the ones monitoring and caring for the most seriously ill and at-risk cases.

The expected salary of a Neonatal Nurse is estimated to be about $66,640 but that can fluctuate depending on the individual's education and experience, the hospital they work at, and what shifts they have.
Neonatal Nurses can be found in almost every hospital nationwide, especially ones in large cities and children's hospitals. The Hospital that I would dream of working in is the Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida. It is an amazing organization that does great work for the scientific community. My family has had good experiences with them when the time came that we needed emergency care.

I believe Neonatal Nursing is the right career for me simply because I feel such a connection with it. Taking care of and delivering newborns is a sort of family tradition and it's in my blood. Ever since I was young, some of my strongest memories I have are of assisting my mother to deliver a child, or watching as I was taught how to wash a newborn in a way that would keep it calm and happy. I have never felt more at home then when I'm holding a newborn as it falls asleep in my arms. I have been prepared for high-stress situations since I was a child, so when the time came for me to choose a career, this one was the obvious choice.

I understand that the limited amount of experience I have while working with a Homeopathic midwife at the age of 7 or 8 will not cut it in the world of adults. However, through those experiences and others over the years, I've attained many abilities such as patience, an eye for detail and a calming manner that I've been told will get me anywhere I want to go in life.

Blog #1: Filterbug

Filterbug

Filterbug is an interactive social media site targeted towards musicians. It allows artists to record both audio and video of them performing, whether it be with a musical instrument or their voice. After the recording is completed, the app uses note-analysing technology to evaluate the quality of the piece, the flaws it may contain, gives suggestions for improvements, and examples to make the music as best as it can be. With a unique voice-overlay system, artists also have the ability to change the pitch, volume, tempo and bass of as many as 5 different voices or instruments. The site also gives the musician the opportunity to share the completed piece with their followers, see other people's music, and get their work out without the fear of copyright infringement.

No individual, or company (Filterbug included) can share, use, sell or buy a musicians video without his/her expressed consent and proper payment.
No musician may use a song in his/her video without giving credit where it is due.
Any artist reported using foul, or abusive language to or about another artist will have his/her privileges to use Filterbug revoked either permanently or temporarily depending on the circumstance.
Failure to comply to these rules will require legal action.

Filterbug is an app that can be downloaded onto any smartphone that supports Google and must be used with internet access to get the full benefit. The projected economic status of it's users includes middle to upper class citizens or anyone with access to a smartphone. Political pieces are supported by the First Amendment and are therefore permitted, however should an artist abuse this right, their account will be revoked either permanently or temporarily. The producers of Filterbug hope that all of it's users will behave in a mature and responsible manner, but should a situation involving ethics arise, the producers of Filterbug reserve the right to act according to the best interest of all.
